An easy way to install a Dimmer Switch

In this article, I will guide you to substitute a switch with an electronic dimmer by using halogen lightening. So the important tool and materials include a screwdriver, neon circuit tester, combination tool, new electronic dimmer switch, wire nuts, and electrical tape. First of all, you have to turn off the circuit from the electrical service panel and remove the cover plate of the switch you want to replace. Now take a neon tester to make sure that the power has been shut off. After analyzing the power now you can start your work safely.

You have to lose the screw terminal and remove all the wires. if there is a slot connected with the switch then it might be a tiny screwdriver that will clear the wire. Check all the wire by straightening it. You have to re-strip all the badly nicked wires to implement open wire to join to the dimmer switch. You will find out two or three wires that are disconnected from the switch. One wire would be white then black and the third one will be bare copper (if present).

if the switch box didn’t have any wire then you might be having a switch box without any connecting ground wire. So now you have to remove the dimmer wire and cover it with a wire nut. If the dimmer didn’t have any wire then it needs to have a plastic, noncombustible wall plate. Connect the ground wire with the dimmer by holding it alongside the circuit ground wire. You have to fasten them together with a wire nut twisted in a clockwise direction.

Connect load wire to the dimmer by holding the blue wire with the load and attach them. Turn the pair of wires and secure them tightly. Now connect the hot wire to dimmer and test dimmer for proper operation. In case of any trouble connect electrician immediately to handle all the situations.
